350+ teams up with The Aspiring Medics and launches Virtual Work Experience

The 350+ NHS Careers Programme is thrilled to announce our collaboration with The Aspiring Medics to support the path to medical school for secondary school and college students across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

We are also excited to announce the launch of our Virtual Work Experience (WEx), giving students access to dedicated lessons across a number of NHS careers including medicine, catering, radiography, paramedicine, facilities management and communications and public relations.

The Aspiring Medics was created by Yusuf Ben-Tarifite, now in his final year of medical school at the University of Oxford. It’s a community of doctors and students helping young people to get into medical school. Through its initiative with the 350+ NHS Careers programme, The Aspiring Medics is giving students across Hampshire and Isle of Wight free access to its online courses, covering every aspect of the medicine application process. There are resources to accompany every stage from year 10 onward, covering everything from A Levels, to personal statements, interviews and online work experience.

Schools and colleges working with the 350+ NHS Careers Programme can obtain a code from the team to gain access to resources at www.theaspiringmedics.co.uk Year 13s will also be able to use the world’s first AI interviewing platform for medical school interviews.

Yusuf says: “We are delighted to team up with the 350+ NHS Careers programme to help the next generation of medics pursue their careers. I applied to medical school in 2018, and coming from a state school, with no doctors in my family, it was an uphill battle; I struggled with an information gap, inspiration gap and skill gap. I created The Aspiring Medics to help make the experience much simpler for others. Medical school is an incredibly competitive space, with thousands applying every year for a limited number of places. Our collaboration with 350+ NHS Careers will help see students well on their way to a fulfilling career in medicine.”

Kat Millmore-Davies, Education Outreach Lead for the 350+ NHS Careers Programme, says: “Some students we meet in our outreach work might think that a career in medicine is out of their grasp. We want to show them it’s totally achievable and that the skills they are developing are exactly what our NHS needs. Yusuf and the Aspiring Medics are not only inspiring, they are also really helping to demystify the process of getting into medical school by offering this guiding hand for every step of the way.  We are very excited to launch this with our schools and colleges and see young people get started with these great resources.”
