Over summer and into autumn, our outreach team are visiting pre-schools, nurseries and childminders providing care for 2–4-year-olds to raise awareness of pre-school immunisations.
Routine immunisations are given to children before they start school to help protect them from serious childhood diseases. Our aim is to help 2–4 year olds understand how germs spread and how to stay healthy. We do this through fun games, songs, stories and activities! Children aged 2-4 are eligible for:
Flu
The children’s flu vaccine helps protect against flu. It’s offered to children aged 2 to 3 years. Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating them also helps protect others who are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu, such as babies, anyone who’s pregnant and older people. Flu can be very unpleasant for children and can sometimes cause serious problems, such as pneumonia.
Pre-School Booster
The 4-in-1 pre-school booster vaccine is offered to children from the age of 3 years and 4 months to boost their protection against four different serious conditions: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio.
MMR
The MMR vaccine is a safe and effective combined vaccine. It protects against three serious illnesses: measles, mumps, rubella (German measles). Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection against Measles, Mumps and Rubella. These highly infectious conditions can easily spread between unvaccinated people. It has been widely reported that Measles infection rates have dramatically increased over recent weeks.
Parents, guardians and carers can book immunisations directly with their GP.
